The Indian War of Independence

I was quite intrigued by the current text that we were assigned to read, as it seems to greatly differ in the approach of a revolution in Indian from the previous text we have read from Gandhi. Both Savarkar and Gandhi wanted to stir up a revolution in India, however Gandhi's whole approach was more peaceful as he practiced passive resistance, while Savarkar's approach seems to be more violent. Savarkar however almost justifies his more aggressive and violent actions by stating that it is a matter of how one views the terminology of those involved in the revolution, such as the mutinees (revolutionaries) and criminals (nationalists), by replacing these terms with more positive and admirable titles, it changes the perspective and meaning of the reading. Savarkar also wanted his writings to be more private while Gandhi wanted his writings to be accessible to all. Savarkar also wanted the public to be knowledgeable in history while Gandhi was not too concerned with such things. I am curious as to which approach to revolution is most effective in accomplishing said goals; essentially violence or non-violence?
